How to Install and Use the ExcelSirJi Add-in with Google Gemini API

If you work in Excel daily, you know how much time goes into repetitive tasks—writing formulas, consolidating data, or creating VBA codes. It’s useful, but it can get boring and slow.
That’s exactly why I built the ExcelSirJi Add-in.
It’s a simple tool (free with the Data Academy subscription) that plugs into Excel and adds the power of AI + automation to your work.
Step 1: Install the ExcelSirJi Add-in
When you download the ExcelSirJi Add-in, it comes as a ZIP file. Here’s how to set it up:
Unzip the file – Right-click → Extract.
Inside the folder, you’ll see the add-in file.
Option 1 (Quick setup): Double-click the file → Excel opens with a new ExcelSirJi ribbon.
Drawback: It disappears when you restart Excel.
Option 2 (Permanent setup):
Go to File → Options → Add-ins → Manage Excel Add-ins → Go.
Browse for the extracted file.
Select and tick it.
Now the ExcelSirJi ribbon will always stay.
Step 2: Connect to Google Gemini API
To use the AI features, you need a Google Gemini API key (don’t worry—it’s free under the free tier).
Go to Google AI Studio.
Sign in with your Google account.
Click Create API Key → Choose a project (or create a new one).
Copy the API Key.
Go back to Excel → ExcelSirJi ribbon → Settings → Paste the key.
Select the model: Gemini 2.5 Flash (best option for free tier).
Save settings. Done!
